Sōtatsu was one of the founders of a decorative style of Japanese painting which now called rinpa. It features objects drawn in a fairly accurate way with a more abstract background. This style was influenced by the earlier work of Kōetsu Hon-ami. Twelve of Sōtatsu’s flower and (or) bird paintings are shown here. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
